Hickman Youth Athletic Association (HYAA) is the governing body for Hickman Field, a collection of sports fields in Kearny Mesa immediately south of REI and Cox Cable, near the intersection of 52 and 805 freeways (see map). HYAA is a nonprofit corporation comprised of eight member organizations. Each organization oversees at least one of the fields within the Hickman complex. St. Augustine's baseball team shares a field and membership with Clairemont Colt League.

HYAA and its member organizations have built the complex from the bare ground up at no cost to the City of San Diego. Maintenance of the fields and even equipment for the players is provided. The result is approximately 43 acres developed with improved playing fields.

HYAA has demonstrated its ability to develop, maintain and manage the complex and provide healthy activities for the children of San Diego County at minimal cost to the City. With eight member organizations, it has a broad and mixed base of support and abilities. We have ambitious plans in filling the future needs for more youth sports fields within the City of San Diego.

Many hours of beneficial recreation and training are provided to the players. A typical week can include several practices and games. In addition to providing the fields and training, each league provides the required equipment. Furthermore, Hickman Field is a safe place where busy parents can confidently leave their children. Alcohol, dogs, and adult sports, all of which could be dangerous to children, are prohibited. Parents, too, find rewarding activity in watching their children compete. Each of the sports can lead to high school, college, Olympic and professional futures. While the children train and play, many adult volunteers run the various organizations, raise funds, officiate, and maintain the fields within the complex.
